Job summary

PsiQuantum is hiring a senior- or staff-level engineer to own the detailed electro-optic hardware module design for advanced photonic systems. You will turn system requirements into complete interfaces and BOMs, lead internal and external development efforts, and ensure robust qualification for production.

You will work across photonics, electronics, mechanical, test, and operations teams to deliver rack-mountable or blade-format solutions with high-performance optics and fiber infrastructure.

Qualifications

• B.S. or higher in EE/optical/physics or related field.
• Proven ownership of detailed electro-optic hardware design through prototype, verification, qualification, and manufacturing release.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of fiber-optic components and subsystems.
• Experience integrating optical, analog and digital electronics with thermal and mechanical packaging for rack-mountable or blade-format equipment.
• Proficiency in developing requirements, interface-control documents, budgets, test plans and formal reports.

Responsibilities

• Own the detailed design and integration of electro-optic modules incorporating amplifiers, attenuators, polarization control, optical switches, splitters, filters, and related fiber infrastructure.
• Convert system requirements into engineering specifications, interfaces, budgets, schematics, BOMs, mechanical layouts, tolerances, and assembly documentation.
• Lead design trade studies on performance, noise, stability, thermal behavior, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and schedule; document decisions and risks.
• Design experiments, select instrumentation and methods, analyze data, and make technically defensible decisions.
• Plan and execute bring-up, characterization, margin and environmental testing; automate measurements and data reduction where possible.
• Author verification plans, test procedures, and reports with clear pass/fail criteria and traceability to requirements.
• Lead EVT and DVT for internal and vendor hardware; investigate failures and drive corrective actions.
• Oversee design reviews, configuration control, and ensure documentation is production-ready.
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers and vendors; manage statements of work, qualification, and resolution of quality issues.
• Partner with manufacturing to implement design-for-manufacture and test, calibration, alignment, and end-of-line acceptance.
