Qualifications

  • Current NETA Level III Certification is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems experience.
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams, schematics, and protection drawings.
  • Strong technical writing and customer communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

Job description

A rapidly growing electrical power services organization is seeking an experienced NETA III Certified Electrical Testing Technician to support utility substation commissioning, acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and power system troubleshooting projects throughout the United States. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical power infrastructure supporting utility, industrial, renewable energy, data center, and commercial clients.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled electrical testing professional capable of independently executing testing assignments, analyzing results, leading field activities, and serving as a technical resource for customers and team members. This role provides significant exposure to complex electrical systems and a clear path toward senior technical and leadership positions.

Position Summary

As a NETA III Certified Electrical Testing Technician, you will be responsible for performing advanced electrical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities on medium- and high-voltage power systems. You will serve as a lead technician on project sites, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with NETA standards, customer specifications, and industry best practices.

This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, customer-facing communication skills, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Testing & Commissioning
  • Independently perform acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and troubleshooting of electrical power equipment.
  • Execute testing in accordance with NETA standards, project specifications, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Support commissioning, energization, startup, and turnover activities for new and existing electrical systems.
  • Verify equipment performance and operational readiness before energization.
Equipment Testing

Perform testing and evaluation of:

  • Low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear
  • Power transformers
  • Instrument transformers
  • Air, vacuum, and SF6 circuit breakers
  • Protective relay systems
  • Bus systems
  • Motor control centers (MCCs)
  • Power cables
  • Grounding systems
  • Control systems and associated equipment
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
  • Diagnose electrical system issues and equipment failures.
  • Analyze test data and identify trends impacting reliability and performance.
  • Develop corrective action recommendations based on testing results.
  • Assist customers with equipment condition assessments and maintenance planning.
Field Leadership
  • Lead field activities during testing, commissioning, and outage projects.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments with project managers and operations leadership.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to NETA II technicians and junior personnel.
  • Ensure testing procedures and safety practices are consistently followed.
Customer & Project Support
  • Interact directly with utility personnel, plant managers, engineers, contractors, and customers.
  • Participate in project planning meetings and outage coordination efforts.
  • Support project scheduling and execution to meet customer deadlines.
  • Maintain professional customer relationships throughout project lifecycles.
Reporting & Documentation
  • Prepare detailed technical reports documenting testing procedures, findings, and recommendations.
  • Review and validate test data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain project documentation and quality records.
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain strict compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety policies, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses and participate in safety briefings.
  • Promote a strong safety culture while leading field activities.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of testing equipment and PPE.
Required Qualifications
  • Current NETA Level III Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems experience
  • Strong background in:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field
  • Military electrical power systems experience
Compensation
  • $60-$80 per hour
