Job summary

Siemens Healthineers in Palo Alto, CA is seeking a Senior Electrical/Systems Engineer to advance high-power RF pulsed power electronics for medical accelerators. You will define, integrate, test, and optimize system-level performance, maturing proof-of-concept hardware into robust products.

Qualifications

  • MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or similar field.
  • 5+ years of hardware system testing, integration, validation, troubleshooting, and production test support of high voltage and power systems.
  • Experience operating lab equipment and diagnostic instrumentation (oscilloscopes, probes, power supplies, DAQ, interlocks).
  • Ability to create test plans, run validated tests, analyze results, and communicate risk-based recommendations.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Senior Electrical/Systems Engineer – High Power RF Systems (Finance)

We are looking for a motivated engineer or scientist to join our Beam Generation Group, which develops the radiation-producing subsystem at the heart of Varian Radiation Oncology machines. Our products use high-energy x-rays generated by linear accelerators to treat cancer patients around the world. This role focuses on the definition, integration, testing, and optimization of RF pulsed power electronics to ensure reliable system‑level performance.

The ideal candidate has experience with electrical hardware, prototype system integration, and failure analysis. Expertise in areas such as power electronics, RF systems, high‑voltage equipment, or pulsed power will stand out. The primary focus is on maturing proof‑of-concept hardware into robust, reliable products. Successful candidates can independently plan and execute tests, analyze results, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions in collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

We are looking for a team‑player who combines a strong technical background with superb practical hands‑on aptitude and project leadership skills. The ability to efficiently manage project timelines and supplier collaborations in a demanding environment is crucial. This is an onsite role in our Palo Alto, California office.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Lead hardware system integration, bring‑up, and validation activities for high‑voltage, pulsed power systems, collaborating with RF, controls, and linac teams.
  • Develop and execute unit‑level test plans, integration procedures, verification and regression test activities.
  • Translate system requirements into design specifications, acceptance criteria, test fixtures designs, data collection methods, and validation reports.
  • Provide project management for R&D projects.
  • Perform hands‑on troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action for component, interface, and system‑level failures.
  • Support manufacturing, production and field service as SME (subject matter expert)
  • Support the creation of documentation and materials for manufacturing and service handoff.
Job Requirements
  • MS/Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied/Engineering Physics, or similar field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in hardware system testing, system design integration, validation, troubleshooting, and production test support of high voltage and power systems
  • Experience operating relevant lab equipment and diagnostic instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, probes, power supplies, data acquisition systems, interlock systems, and automated test tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently create test plans, execute structured validation activities, analyze test data, document results, and communicate risk‑based recommendations.
  • Ability to interact effectively with experts in multiple disciplines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
