Job description

Senior Electrical Estimator Opportunity

A confidential electrical contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Estimator for its Charlotte, NC market. This position is intended for an estimator who can take ownership of complex commercial and industrial estimates from initial document review through final bid submission and project turnover. The successful candidate will combine strong electrical construction knowledge with disciplined estimating practices, sound judgment, and the ability to identify risk and opportunity before a project is awarded.

Experience

8+ years of electrical estimating or preconstruction experience is preferred, with a strong background in commercial and industrial electrical construction. Candidates should be comfortable estimating complex projects, managing multiple bids and deadlines, interpreting drawings and specifications, and working with project values ranging from approximately $1 million to $50 million or more. Field electrical experience and design-build or design-assist experience are valuable.

Responsibilities
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, bid documents, schedules, and contract requirements.
  • Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, low-voltage, controls, and site electrical systems.
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and vendor pricing for complete electrical scopes.
  • Solicit, organize, and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, project risks, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Prepare conceptual budgets, negotiated estimates, design-build estimates, and competitive hard bids.
  • Participate in estimate reviews, bid strategy discussions, and final pricing decisions.
  • Coordinate with project management, operations, preconstruction, and field leadership during the estimating process.
  • Support project turnover after award so the operations team clearly understands scope, assumptions, pricing, and risk.
  • Maintain productive relationships with general contractors, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
  • Help improve estimating standards, historical cost information, and internal estimating procedures.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less-experienced estimators when appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Extensive electrical estimating experience appropriate for a senior-level position.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial and industrial electrical construction methods and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings, specifications, schedules, and contract documents.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and applicable electrical construction standards.
  • Experience with electrical estimating software and digital plan-review tools such as Accubid, Trimble products, Bluebeam, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong understanding of labor units, material pricing, vendor quotations, subcontractor scopes, and project indirect costs.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Field electrical experience, design-build experience, and experience with healthcare, institutional, data center, hospitality, or other complex facilities are beneficial.
