Job summary

Astronics CSC is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the transfer of design files to manufacturing, oversee production issue resolution, and assist with regulatory testing. The role is local, onsite in Waukegan, IL with occasional travel to Chicago area labs and suppliers in the region.

Ideal candidates hold a BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering with 10+ years’ experience, ECAD expertise (Altium), and strong C/C++, Python, Linux skills.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering from an accredited university program with a minimum of 10 years’ experience.
• ECAD experience for schematic capture and layout, preferably Altium Designer.
• Team player and methodical self-starter able to complete projects in a timely manner.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience supporting electrical engineering designs in production to resolve production issues.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues using documentation and test fixtures.
• Software experience in C/C++, Python, Linux, Bash, Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
• Execution of electrical engineering evaluation procedures at vendor locations.

Responsibilities

• Complete PCBA level design including BOM management, revision control, configuration management, hardware bring-up/debug, and issue tracking.
• Familiarity with design of multilayer PCBs that include high-speed communication up to 10Gbps, wireless modules for 802.11, BTLE, RFID/NFC, LTE, and power management.
• Product verification/testing including tests, reports, and programming scripts.
• Use and selection of test equipment such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers.
• Provide direction to Engineering Technician and support PCBA assembly, rework and changes.
• Mentor interns and junior engineers.
• Provide direction to Ukraine engineers and CAD specialists.
• Support creation and evolution of the electrical engineering design process.
• Support transfer of design files into manufacturing and regulatory compliance testing.
• Become Subject Matter Expert for the manufacturing team on mid-level and low-level designs.
• Support high-level and multiple program complexities concurrently.
• Independently lead Electrical Engineering teams on all complexity levels.
• Knowledge of ISO/AS9100 processes and audits; support ISO audits.
