Position: Senior Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer – Software

Responsibilities
  • Support rail transit agencies in the procurement of rail vehicles and systems by establishing requirements, participating in technical design reviews, and supporting software quality assurance efforts.
  • Develop technical specifications for software included in new and upgraded rail vehicle equipment and systems.
  • Analyze and apply IEEE and EN software standards to rail transit procurements.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals for compliance with specification system and software requirements.
  • Provide cogent analysis based on specification requirements for software submittals.
  • Conduct Software Quality Assurance Audits at supplier sites.
  • Witness software and system‑level equipment tests.
  • Lead a group of Vehicle Electrical Engineers to ensure cohesive reviews between engineers across multiple projects, apply the latest software industry best practices to all projects, and mentor and train engineers in the latest software innovations, including AI software coding tools.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in software engineering and software quality assurance.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non‑technical client personnel.
  • EIT/PE desirable but not required.
  • Additional desirable skills and experience:
    • Knowledge of the rail transit industry, experience with rail vehicle procurements, broad understanding of rail transit vehicle electrical systems and interfaces.
    • Understanding of relevant EN Standards (e.g., EN 50128, EN 50657), FRA regulations, and IEEE safety standards.
Benefits
  • Base Compensation: $150,000 – $170,000 (actual compensation is subject to variation due to education, experience, skillset, and/or location).

  • Paid Time Away from Work: 3–4 weeks of vacation based on experience and company discretion, prorated in the first year based on hire date (up to 2.5 weeks can be carried over per year); 10 paid holidays; 10 sick days per calendar year, with the ability to carry‑over sick time to a maximum of 40 days to be used for future FMLA‑qualifying events; partial paid parental leave up to 12 weeks for birth parents and 4 weeks for non‑birth parents.
