Job summary

Metra seeks an Electrical Engineer to design and maintain electrical power distribution for railroad assets. You will manage consultants, prepare design packages, and handle contract administration for DC traction projects.

Responsibilities include leading design efforts, ensuring code compliance with NEC, NFPA, and local regulations, and coordinating with multiple departments and vendors. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 8+ years experience in electrical power distribution design and PM.
• Experience in railroad engineering projects and DC traction power preferred.
• Knowledge of NEC, Chicago Building Code, and NFPA standards.
• Strong design, cost estimation, and technical drawing skills.
• Ability to manage consultants, review invoices, and handle contract changes.

Responsibilities

• Manage consultants including scheduling, meetings, and progress tracking.
• Prepare design packages with drawings, specs, and cost estimates for projects.
• Prepare contract documents for bids and respond to questions during pre-bid periods.
• Perform contract administration: review invoices, changes, and payment disputes.
• Coordinate day-to-day activities, provide guidance to staff, and ensure safety.
