Job description

Our client is a leading engineering consulting firm specializing in complex power and control systems. Their portfolio spans utility substations, renewable energy integration (solar PV, BESS), industrial facilities, and high-voltage transmission projects. With decades of experience, they help clients modernize infrastructure, integrate renewable energy, and achieve operational excellence.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the technical execution of major power system projects, mentor engineering teams, and influence design standards across the firm’s growing energy portfolio. This role is ideal for engineers who want a combination of technical depth, client interaction, and leadership impact.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead design and engineering for medium-voltage systems (15 kV–69 kV), including substations, industrial distribution, and renewable interconnections.
  • Perform and review power system studies: short-circuit, load flow, protection coordination, and arc flash assessments.
  • Develop layouts, AC/DC panel schedules, grounding, and lightning protection designs.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE/ANSI, and utility-specific interconnection standards.
  • Serve as technical lead from concept through commissioning for utility, renewable, and industrial power projects.
  • Develop scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and quality plans while maintaining technical oversight of drawings, calculations, and deliverables.
  • Guide mid- and junior-level engineers, designers, and CAD teams on technical standards, project deliverables, and power system best practices.
  • Foster development of internal tools, templates, and workflows to enhance efficiency and consistency.
  • Provide mentorship and technical coaching to build a high-performing engineering group.
  • Act as the principal technical contact for key accounts, participating in workshops, design reviews, and project meetings.
  • Support proposals, scope development, and strategic account growth initiatives.
  • Deliver value-driven insights that strengthen client relationships and enable future project opportunities.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • BS in Electrical Engineering with a power systems focus. EIT or PE license preferred.
  • 7+ years in electrical power engineering, with demonstrated expertise in utility or industrial substations and distribution systems.
  • Strong background in protection and control, including medium-voltage substations and power systems in the 15 kV–69 kV range. Higher-voltage experience is a plus.
  • Experience managing complex projects independently, including scope, schedule, budget, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Hands-on familiarity with power system analysis tools (e.g., SKM, ETAP, EasyPower).
  • Exposure to renewable energy systems: solar PV, energy storage, or hybrid generation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, RTUs, and industry-standard communications protocols (DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850).
  • Experience with grid interconnection studies, emergency power systems, or industrial facility distribution.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $130,000 – $150,000
  • 401(k) with company match and profit-sharing opportunities
  • Paid holidays, vacation, and PTO
  • Flexible hybrid work arrangement with office and client site engagement
  • Opportunities for growth, including leadership, practice development, and potential equity/ownership
