Job summary

Smart Wires Inc. is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to advance grid-connected electronics and systems. You will own the design of mission-critical PCBA hardware, drive power electronics development, and lead reliability testing to ensure product quality.

You will report to the Head of Electrical Engineering and influence major design decisions while collaborating across engineering teams. This hybrid Durham, NC role requires hands-on lab work and strong problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years in electrical engineering with electronics/circuit design.
• Experience in PCB design including analogue/digital, layouts and constraints.
• Experience with power electronic devices (IGBTs, thyristors, MOSFETs).
• Experience designing harnesses and connectors considering signal integrity, shielding, etc.
• Proficient with EDA tools (Altium/Eagle/OrCAD).
• Lab experience with test and measurement tools.
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own multiple PCBA designs from concept to production, including electrical design, layout, testing and manufacturing.
• Develop and support power electronics throughout the product.
• Interface between electromechanical switches and control electronics (PCBAs, harnesses, capacitors).
• Lead harnesses/ connectors design standardization for integration.
• Develop and execute tests: design validation, troubleshooting, accelerated life/reliability testing.
