Job summary

Resource Consulting Engineers, LLC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its MEP team in the Ames/Des Moines, IA or Omaha, NE area. This on-site role leads electrical design for commercial and institutional projects and coordinates with architects, owners, and contractors to deliver construction documents and robust systems.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in electrical engineering within an MEP or A/E setting, extensive Revit experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience.
• 5+ years in an MEP consulting or A/E design firm.
• Experience designing electrical/MEP systems for commercial or institutional buildings.
• Experience in education, government, or healthcare markets.
• Extensive hands-on experience using Autodesk Revit for building systems design & construction documents.
• Experience with power distribution, lighting, and low‑voltage systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical codes and coordination with architects/contractors.
• Strong written and verbal communication; on-site work ability.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for commercial and institutional projects.
• Design and coord. power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, and LV systems.
• Develop construction documents and specifications in Revit.
• Lead projects from concept through construction administration.
• Coordinate electrical systems with mechanical, architectural, structural, and other disciplines.
• Work directly with architects, owners, contractors, and other clients.
• Perform electrical calculations, equipment selection, code analysis, and system evaluations.
• Review contractor submittals and shop drawings.
• Respond to RFIs and provide engineering support during construction.
• Participate in site visits, field observations, and assessments of existing electrical systems.
• Manage project schedules, deliverables, and client expectations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
• Contribute to the continued growth of RCE's electrical engineering practice.
