Job summary

Ultima Genomics is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Fremont, CA to own the electrical architecture of automated sequencing instruments and guide designs from concept to production. You will work across robotics, motion control, data acquisition, and test automation with collaboration from firmware and mechanical teams.

The role requires 5+ years of experience in mixed-signal electronics, PCB design, and signal/power integrity, using tools like Altium or KiCad, with SPICE for simulations.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Hands-on experience designing custom PCBs and mixed-signal electronics with embedded microcontrollers.
• Experience collaborating with firmware engineers on hardware-software integration and with mechanical and other engineering teams on design integration.
• Strong understanding of signal and power integrity.
• Proficiency with electronic design tools such as Altium Designer or KiCad for schematic capture and PCB layout creation and review.
• Experience using circuit-simulation tools such as SPICE.
• Experience designing industrial electrical systems, including power-supply sizing, component selection, wire-harness design, and electrical enclosure or panel layout.
• Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for board-level electronics and complex multidisciplinary systems.
• Experience with Python for test automation and data analysis, or with designing automated test platforms and reliability test setups.

Responsibilities

• Own the electrical architecture and technical execution of complex subsystems within next-generation automated sequencing instruments.
• Guide electronic designs from concept through production across robotics, precision motion control, high-speed data acquisition, mixed-signal electronics, and test automation.
• Translate system requirements into electrical specifications and define interfaces and acceptance criteria for subsystems.
• Lead electrical design reviews and risk assessments and support safety and EMC regulatory activities.
• Design PCBs and wire harnesses for complex electromechanical systems and document design decisions.
• Define verification plans and execute experiments to verify hardware and firmware functionality.
• Lead prototype testing and ensure electrical readiness for new product integration and volume production.
• Design automated test and measurement systems and troubleshoot electrical issues with cross-functional teams.
• Develop build, test, and training documentation; manage BOMs and obsolescence.
