Job summary

Ultima Genomics seeks a Firmware Engineer I to join its Fremont, CA onsite team. You will develop embedded firmware for automated sequencing instruments, integrating firmware with hardware, and creating HIL/SIL tests to ensure robust, reliable operation.

A BS in CS/CE or related field is required; MS or internship experience is preferred. The role emphasizes hands-on development, sensor/actuator interfaces, and collaboration with electrical engineers.

Qualifications

• Requires a BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field.
• MS or relevant internship experience strongly preferred.
• Hands-on embedded firmware experience via coursework, projects, internships, or industry work.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for automated sequencing instruments (sensor interfaces, robotics, motion control, data acquisition).
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate firmware and hardware; discuss interfaces and protocols for robustness.
• Develop HIL tests to validate board-level functionality and SIL tests to detect regressions early.
