Job summary

Ultima Genomics is seeking a Firmware Engineer I to develop firmware for next-generation automated sequencing instruments in Fremont, CA. You will work hands-on, interfacing software with hardware and applying engineering skills to sequencing technology.

This is a full-time onsite role requiring a BS in CS/CE or related field, with preference for an MS or internship experience. You will collaborate with electrical engineers and participate in design discussions and testing activities.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field is required.
• Advanced degree (MS) preferred or relevant internship experience.
• Hands-on embedded firmware experience through coursework, internships, or industry work.
• Experience with C programming and microcontroller fundamentals.
• Ability to use DVMs, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers to measure signals.
• Familiarity with CAN or EtherCAT.
• Experience with Python for test automation or data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded firmware for automated sequencing instruments.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate firmware and hardware.
• Develop HIL firmware tests and SIL testing to validate functionality.
• Evaluate new hardware components and review datasheets/errata.
• Run experiments to verify firmware functionality and performance.
• Assist with debugging and continuous improvement tasks.
