Job summary

Plug Power Inc. is seeking a Principal or Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as the electrical technical authority for hydrogen fuel cell power systems.

The role spans high-power electronics, embedded controls, system architecture, and full design lifecycle from concept through production release. Core duties include design of DC/DC converters, EMI/EMC mitigation, and top-level electrical architecture; lead DV/ PV testing, DFMEA, and regulatory compliance; collaborate across S&C, and mentor

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years (Senior) or 10+ years (Principal) of power electronics experience.
• Expertise in DC/DC converter design, magnetics, thermal, EMC.
• Hands-on embedded controls hardware on DSP/MCU/FPGA.
• Strong system-level electrical architecture: power distribution, harness, sensors.
• PCB ECAD tools (Altium) and circuit simulation (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Experience with DVP&R, DFMEA, DV/PV testing and gate reviews.
• Electrical compliance (UL, CE, ISO, SAE, NFPA 2) and Stage-Gate/DFSS.
• Experience with PEM fuel cell/hydrogen systems; SiC/GaN a plus.
• ISO 26262 / IEC 61508 familiarity; MBDevelopment and HIL testing.
• Excellent communication; travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

• Design, validate DC/DC converters and power interfaces for fuel cell systems.
• Lead EMI/EMC mitigation from schematic to PCB layout and validation.
• Own electrical architecture: power distribution, harness design, grounding.
• Lead DFMEA, DVP&R, DV/PV testing, and gate reviews.
• Coordinate with mechanical/thermal teams for packaging and thermal.
• Certify compliance with UL, CE, NFPA 2, SAE and ISO standards.
• Mentor engineers and drive design-for-test and design-for-manufacture.
• Represent electrical engineering in program reviews with leadership.
