Job summary

The City of New Bern is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the development, design and operation of electrical distribution projects, including new lines, reconductoring and rebuilding efforts. You will work under the supervision of the department heads designee.

Responsibilities include researching and inspecting sites, drafting specifications, reviewing submitted plans and providing technical support across divisions.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with major in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or related field.
• Some engineering design experience or equivalent education/experience.

Responsibilities

• Designs and prepares plans for overhead and underground lines, including new construction and rebuilding.
• Stakes job sites and establishes locations for poles, transformers, and underground cable.
• Meets with land developers, industrial and residential customers to determine service requirements.
• Prepares cost estimates for labor, equipment and materials.
• Makes surveys and studies to prepare construction plans.
• Reviews plans for compliance with NEC codes and city standards.
• Drafts specifications for equipment, materials and operation of electrical systems.
• On-site inspections to ensure plan and safety code compliance.
• Provides engineering support to divisions as needed.
