Job summary

Jacobs seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer for New York City or Morristown, NJ. You will design full LV and MV systems, prepare contract drawings, and lead multi-project efforts with a focus on mission-critical facilities and building services.

You\'ll mentor junior staff, collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with NFPA standards while delivering high-quality, cost-effective design solutions in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required.
  • Professional Engineer licensure is required.
  • Experience with MEP firms focusing on Mission Critical applications is preferred.
  • Proficient in Revit and 3D CAD.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and building systems is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Design full low and medium voltage electrical systems including power, emergency power, batteries, lighting, and fire alarm systems.
  • Prepare contract drawings, specifications, and basis of design reports for complex projects.
  • Lead load analysis and prepare detailed project electrical drawings.
  • Prepare basis of design reports and technical specifications.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and architects across locations; manage multiple assignments.
  • Mentor junior staff and support QA of plans and estimates.

Senior Electrical Engineer

As a Senior Electrical Engineer in our New York City or Morristown, NJ locations you will be joining a team that provides a range of skills as part of an integrated building services design. Our diverse range of skills include medium voltage to low voltage power distribution system design, power studies (short circuit, coordination and & arc flash), lighting design, transportation and aviation infrastructure fire and life safety systems, water/wastewater facilities, mission critical environments and renewable energy infrastructure.

While working in this role you’ll be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously including design, perform calculations, prepare contract drawings and specifications and prepare basis of design reports. Part of the role includes delegating work to junior staff and overseeing drawings, specifications and calculations to ensure they meet applicable codes and project requirements. As an associate electrical engineer, you will also attend client meetings during which you will interface with contractors and vendors without minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Design full low and medium voltage electrical systems, including power, emergency power systems, batteries, lighting, fire alarm and signaling systems
  • From planning studies to final design, the associate electrical engineer will lead in preparing contract documents for plans, specifications, and cost estimates for complex projects
  • Design lighting systems including associated control systems
  • Prepare load analysis for each stage of design
  • Prepare detailed project electrical systems drawings
  • Prepare basis of design reports and technical specifications for the project
  • Expertly apply knowledge of commonly used electrical engineering and design concepts, principles, best practices, codes, and guidelines related to electrical engineering industry
  • Select and prepare specifications for electrical equipment
  • Coordinate work with engineers of other disciplines and with project architects across multiple locations
  • Manage several different assignments simultaneously
  • Work with a Senior Level Electrical Engineer for quality control and quality assurance of electrical engineering plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Mentor junior staff
Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Professional Engineer licensure
  • Experience working for a MEP firm required focusing on Mission Critical applications, experience designing medium‑ voltage distribution systems and emergency generation
  • Proficient in Revit, 3D CADD.
  • Knowledge of NFPA Standards
  • Working knowledge of other building systems (e.g. door finish hardware, IT building communications, lighting controls and BAS networks) as these relate electrical systems

Salary

The base salary range for this position is $130,000.00 to $225,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
