Job summary

EVONA in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to drive the development of next‑generation satellite hardware. You will stay hands‑on while guiding technical direction across complex spacecraft programs and mentor junior engineers.

You will collaborate with software, systems, and mechanical teams to deliver flight‑ready hardware, perform debugging, and validate power electronics and interfaces in a fast‑paced, high‑reliability aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 8-12+ years of experience in hardware development and electrical system design.
• Strong hands-on debugging of electronics, including digital systems and power electronics.
• Proficiency with PCB design and schematic tools such as Altium Designer.
• Solid understanding of serial protocols including I2C, SPI, UART, CAN and Ethernet.
• Experience with laboratory debug equipment: oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analyzers.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with electrical engineering teams across hardware design, debugging, and system integration activities.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers through design reviews and troubleshooting.
• Review schematics, support board bring-up, and debug complex hardware systems in labs.
• Debug and validate digital systems including logic-level circuits, microcontrollers, and embedded interfaces.
• Support power electronics development, including DC/DC converters and power distribution.
• Troubleshoot and validate serial communications (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet).
• Define and maintain engineering standards, validation methodologies, and test processes.
• Partner with software, systems, mechanical, and integration teams to deliver flight-ready hardware.
• Support system integration, hardware validation, and issue resolution during campaigns.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
• 8-12+ years of experience in hardware development and electrical system design
• Strong hands-on experience debugging electronics, including digital systems and power electronics
• Proficiency with PCB design and schematic tools such as Altium Designer or equivalent platforms
• Solid understanding of serial communication protocols including I²C, SPI, UART, CAN, and Ethernet
• Experience working with laboratory debug equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power analyzers
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to mentor junior engineers and work across multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing spacecraft, aerospace, or other high-reliability hardware systems
• Familiarity with environmental testing including vibration, thermal, EMI/EMC, and qualification testing
• Knowledge of design-for-test (DFT), fault-tolerant systems, or radiation-tolerant electronics
• Experience supporting hardware integration and system-level validation activities
