Unknown Client in Palo Alto seeks a visionary hardware leader to own end-to-end embedded architecture for high-power medical devices. Qualifications

• Pulsed power design and high-density switching knowledge.
• Experience with Altium for multi-layer PCBs and EMI/thermal constraints.
• Embedded hardware development across end-to-end lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-density switching supplies and magnetics up to 1,000 V, 400 A, 4 kW.
• Architect multilayer PCBs with Altium from schematic to layout, addressing EMI/thermal challenges.
• Lead hardware development for embedded controllers powered by ARM cores.
• Design mixed-signal conditioning including ADCs/DACs and op-amps.
• Integrate I2C/SPI/UART/CAN protocols and wiring harnesses.
• Coordinate mechatronics, motion systems, and electro-optics with instrumentation.
• Select components for performance, reliability, and obsolescence risk.
• Prototype bring-up, lab troubleshooting, and hardware-software integration.
• Verify safety and regulatory compliance (IEC 60601-1, EMC) and FDA controls.

We do not believe in separating the thinker from the builder. In this role, you possess end-to-end command across the full hardware lifecycle, partnering across mechanical, software, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams throughout New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining engineering:

• Pulsed Power Conversion & Magnetics: Design, simulate, and build high-density switching supplies, custom transformers, magnetic circuits, constant current sources, and high-speed IGBT/MOSFET gate-drive topologies (high-power switching, motor control, switching supplies) engineered to handle up to 1,000 V, 400 A, and 4 kW.
• Dense Multilayer Altium Execution: Architect complex multilayer printed circuit boards using Altium Designer from schematic capture through layout, conquering return paths, severe EMI challenges, and tight thermal constraints.
• Next-Gen Embedded Systems & Architecture: Lead hardware development for embedded controllers powered by ARM microcontrollers and microprocessors, establishing the foundational embedded platforms that will scale across our Client's future product roadmap.
• Precision Mixed-Signal & Analog Conditioning: Architect mixed-signal systems, including ADCs, DACs, operational amplifier circuits (amplifiers, integrators, differentiators, and instrumentation front ends), signal conditioning, and basic digital design interfacing.
• Serial Bus Integration & Interconnects: Integrate and validate robust low-level communication protocols (I²C, SPI, UART, CAN, and related buses) and design complete system wiring harnesses and electrical interconnect cables.
• Mechatronics & Electro-Optics: Synchronize precision robotics, motion systems, and motor drives with electro-optical instrumentation and pyroelectric sensor detectors.
• Lifecycle Component Curation: Select critical electronic components with rigorous consideration for electrical performance, reliability, availability, bill-of-materials cost, and long-term obsolescence management.
• Hands-On Lab Diagnostics & Bring-Up: Live at the bench during early builds—performing hands-on prototype assembly, SMD rework, lab troubleshooting, board-level bring-up, and hardware/software integration and debugging.
• Safety-Critical Verification & Regulatory Command: Direct system-level verification, electrical safety compliance (IEC 60601-1), EMC/EMI mitigation, and product validation activities under FDA design controls.
