Purpose
The Senior Electrical Engineer will apply engineering knowledge and provide support to the Facilities & Utilities team in our North Chicago site. This role will also assist with overseeing global projects and provide technical direction on electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Review the design of electrical power system infrastructure, equipment, backup power, and provide guidance to comply with AbbVie Standards and Specifications, applicable international code compliance, and best practices. Generate and/or update standards for Electrical Systems for the Global Engineering Assurance Team.
- Stay informed on the latest regulatory guidance and industry best practices for electrical power systems, including skidded equipment, electrical infrastructure, backup power systems, and lighting systems.
- Provide technical direction on global capital projects through all phases from conceptual engineering to detailed engineering, installation, and commissioning, including detailed system descriptions, one-line diagrams, Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies.
- Guide equipment selection based on project requirements by working with equipment suppliers.
- Lead factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests for equipment.
- Develop and present internal continuing education topics.
- Troubleshoot power distribution systems and support commissioning activities.
- Evaluate and present electric utility infrastructure options.
- Work within a regulated pharmaceutical environment supporting campus, commercial, manufacturing, and laboratory environments.
- Build strong relationships with peers and cross-functional partners to enable higher performance.
- Create a learning environment open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.
- Embrace ideas of others, nurturing innovation and managing it to reality.
- Develop and implement a vision for system design and standardization across the company to meet AbbVie's needs.
- Serve as SME during Regulatory Agency Audits, preparing documentation and presenting information to regulatory agents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science, or related discipline; or equivalent technical experience with demonstrated competence. 6+ years of significant engineering and/or operational experience preferred. Post-graduate education/degree is a plus.
- Demonstrated competency in Power Distribution.
- Strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Able to analyze complex problems involving multiple factors and exercise judgment within procedures.
- Experience in Power Infrastructure design and installation projects involving complex analysis.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and translate complex ideas for non-technical audiences.
- Strong relationships with internal and external collaborators.
- Effective communication skills, including tactful articulation of ideas orally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Collaborative work style in fast-paced, goal-driven environments.
- Interpersonal skills for negotiation and reconciling differences.
- Experience with financial systems and fiscal control.
