Job summary

Alert Venture Foundry is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design and develop complex physical systems across flying, tethered, and ground platforms. You will work with a shared hardware team, collaborating with mechanical, controls, and firmware engineers to move hardware from schematic to test, integration, and field validation.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, including hands-on work in robotics, embedded systems, or battery-powered hardware products.
• Strong schematic design and PCB layout experience across analog and digital domains, including sensor signal chains, motor drive circuits, and AC as well as DC based systems.
• Expertise taking a board through multiple bring-up, debugging and validation cycles, including diagnosing real hardware failures on the bench and in the field, not just in simulation.
• Experience with popular embedded prototyping platforms, including Raspberry Pi, NVidia Jetson, and STM32 microcontrollers
• Working knowledge of embedded firmware, with the ability to prototype and troubleshoot electrical and firmware interfaces
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving and lean startup environment with broad ownership, where you take a design from concept through validation rather than owning only one subsystem inside a large program
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

Responsibilities

• Own electrical design across AVF ventures, including schematic capture, PCB layout coordination, component selection for sensor, motor-control, and power subsystems
• Design and validate COTS and custom sensor electronics, including signal conditioning and interfaces with embedded computing systems
• Design motor drive, sensor, and power distribution electronics for battery-powered robotic platforms, with appropriate thermal and reliability margin for continuous or repeated-cycle field operation
• Partner with firmware and controls engineers to diagnose and resolve issues that span the electrical and software boundary
• Support EMC/RF and regulatory test readiness, including FCC Part 15B, in partnership with AVF's product safety and compliance function
• Work directly with in-house manufacturing and external fabrication and assembly vendors on board bring-up, rework, troubleshooting, and transition to production
• Contribute across multiple programs as part of AVF's shared engineering team, shifting between ventures based on technical priorities and business needs

About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer at AVF, you'll take a hands-on role designing and developing complex physical systems across a portfolio of ventures spanning flying, tethered, and ground-based platforms. Your work may include flight and motion-control electronics, embedded power systems, sensor integration, and PCB design for autonomous consumer hardware built to perform reliably in real-world, outdoor environments.

Working as part of AVF's shared hardware engineering team, you'll contribute wherever your expertise is needed most, partnering closely with mechanical, controls, and firmware engineers to take hardware from schematic and design through testing, system integration, and field validation.

• Experience with force/torque, PLCs, or other precision sensor electronics
• Familiarity with EMC/RF pre-compliance testing and design for regulatory compliance (FCC Part 15, UL, or similar)
• Experience with outdoor, weatherized, or safety-critical electromechanical products
• Familiarity with brushless motor control and drive electronics (e.g., Maxon, Faulhaber, or comparable platforms)
