Job summary

Construction Innovations, LLC in California seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the engineering of complex substation, transmission, and distribution projects. You will mentor the Power team, develop detailed electrical drawings, and perform advanced system studies for utility and primary service customers.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in electrical engineering with 5+ years in substations, an ABET-accredited BS in Electrical Engineering, and PE licensure.

Qualifications

  • Minimum ten years in Electrical Engineering with five years in substation engineering for medium/high voltage power or PV systems.
  • ABET-accredited BS degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Registered Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state, with interest in licensure in others.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI codes and utility standards.
  • Experience with power system studies and design tools (ETAP/SKM) and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer transmission and distribution substations to meet requirements and safety standards.
  • Lead engineering and design activities for medium/high voltage substations, switchyards, and transmission systems.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop drawings: single-line, wiring, schematics, layouts, SCADA, and communication diagrams.
  • Prepare relay settings, coordination studies, load flow, ground grids, arc flash, harmonics analyses, and MOPs.
  • Develop equipment specifications and evaluate submittals; create BOMs for project kits.
  • Mentor team members and drive projects to on-time, on-budget delivery.

OVERVIEW:

The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the engineering of complex, standard, and non-standard transmission and distribution substations. The Senior Electrical Engineer plays a crucial role in the development of cutting-edge electrical engineering solutions; they’re a technical leader and mentor who will serve as an advanced-level resource. The ideal candidate will work both independently and in a team environment, utilizing their experience in electrical design and construction of substation, transmission, and distribution projects, working with both utility and primary service customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure that electrical transmission, distribution, and renewable facilities are designed and engineered to meet customer requirements, industry standards, and safety requirements
  • Lead engineering and design activities for medium/high voltage substations, switchyards, distribution, and transmission systems project
  • Provide direction, consultation, and support for internal and external customers on various projects
  • Develop single-line, three-line, schematic, wiring, general arrangement, communications, SCADA, and layout drawings for medium/high voltage systems and equipment
  • Prepare relay settings, coordination studies, load flow analysis, ground grid studies, arc flash reports, harmonics studies, MOPs, and any other required High Voltage Reports or Procedures
  • Prepare electrical equipment specifications and evaluate electrical equipment submittals per customer requirements and applicable standards
  • Develop project kit bill of materials (BOMs)
  • Mentor, train, and oversee the work of subordinate team members
  • Provide leadership to the Power team and assist with completing projects on schedule and on budget
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in Electrical Engineering overall, with five (5) of those years in substation engineering for medium and high voltage power systems or photovoltaic systems
  • An ABET-accredited BS degree in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Registered Electrical Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one US state, with the ability to, and interest in obtaining PE licenses in other states
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, utility, and local codes and standards
  • Ability to evaluate and resolve complex technical issues, monitor and manage projects, and establish and maintain working relationships both internally and externally
  • ETAP/SKM knowledge and/or experience performing arc flash, short circuit analysis, relay coordination studies, and conductor sizing
  • Ability to train, develop, and mentor team members
  • Experience developing drawings in AutoCAD or similar programs
  • Knowledge and design experience in battery storage, solar, and microgrids is preferred
  • Experience in design/build or EPC construction or manufacturing preferred

Construction Innovations' facilities and offices are located in Sacramento, CA, and Mather, CA.

COMPENSATION:

A reasonable estimate of the current salary range for this position is $142,250.00 - $235,700.00 annually. The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors, including geography, skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

This role qualifies for a $10k sign-on bonus.
