Job summary

SFCS in Louisville, KY seeks an Electrical Engineer to join our team and lead design of electrical systems for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects. You will coordinate with architects, designers, and project teams to deliver code-compliant, practical solutions.

The role emphasizes mentoring junior staff, maintaining client relationships, and staying current with NEC, NFPA, IBC standards while traveling as needed to support projects across SFCS offices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with ability to obtain licensure in multiple states.
  • Advanced experience designing electrical systems for commercial, healthcare, education, and government facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IBC and applicable codes and standards.
  • Experience designing power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Experience preparing technical specifications and construction documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical system design and coordination for new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, clients, contractors, and project teams to deliver practical, cost-effective electrical solutions.
  • Participate in planning, system selection, feasibility studies, and preliminary cost estimating.
  • Perform field investigations and evaluate existing electrical systems for renovation and reuse.
  • Prepare schematic design, DD, CD, specs, and calculations.
  • Develop contract documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate with structural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, and architectural disciplines.
  • Provide construction administration services, including shop drawing review and RFIs.
  • Mentor and guide early-career and experienced staff.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with building codes and best practices while supporting continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to support projects across SFCS offices.

  • Develop contract documents utilizing the latest versions of Revit and AutoCAD.

  • Provide construction administration services, including shop drawing review, responses to RFIs, site observations, evaluation of proposed changes, and review of contractor cost proposals.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to early career and experienced engineering staff.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes, technologies, and industry best practices while contributing to continuous improvement within the practice.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically in support of project assignments, client meetings, site visits, and collaboration across SFCS offices.
