Job summary

Mevion Medical Systems is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer to lead advanced electrical subsystems for the MEVION S250 proton therapy platform. You will guide senior engineers, own design verification, and ensure safety and reliability across the product lifecycle.

This role requires hands-on experience with high-voltage power electronics, PCB design, and integrated system testing while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Expect domestic and international travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • BS EE required with 10+ years experience in product design and development.
  • MS EE acceptable with 7+ years in a complex product setting.
  • Experience in design verification, documentation, and development stages.

Responsibilities

  • Leads electrical subsystem design including power electronics and HV systems.
  • Performs schematic capture, layout review for complex assemblies.
  • Develops test plans, failure analysis, and verification protocols.
  • Maintains electrical design docs: schematics, BOMs, and change orders.
  • Provides mentorship to junior engineers on design methods and standards.
  • Collaborates with mechanical, software, and physics teams for integration.
  • Troubleshoots electrical issues in manufacturing, commissioning, and field.
  • Ensures safety and EMC compliance per IEC 60601 and related standards.
  • Willing to travel 5-10% domestically and internationally.

Job description

Position Summary

The Sr. Electrical Engineer designs and develops advanced electrical subsystems for the MEVION S250 proton therapy platform. This senior engineering role leads electrical design tasks with a high degree of autonomy and provides technical guidance to less experienced engineers. The position plays a key role in ensuring electrical systems meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements across the product lifecycle. The role spans product design, prototyping, testing, refining and troubleshooting.

Essential Functions
  • Leads the design and development of electrical subsystems including power electronics, control circuitry, and high-voltage systems.
  • Performs circuit analysis, schematic design, and PCB layout review for complex electrical assemblies.
  • Develops and executes electrical system test plans, failure analysis, and design verification protocols.
  • Authors and maintains electrical design documentation including schematics, BOMs, and engineering change orders.
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers on electrical design methodology and standards.
  • Collaborates with mechanical, software, and physics engineering teams to ensure electrical subsystem integration.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves electrical issues during manufacturing, commissioning, and field operation.
  • Ensures electrical designs comply with applicable safety standards including IEC 60601 and relevant EMC requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel (5-10%) domestically and internationally as business needs require.
Required Education, Training, And Experience
  • BS EE required with 10+ years experience, or Master’s degree with 7+ years experience, in a product design and development engineering role for a complex product.
  • Proven experience in performing all design and development stages including schematic capture, layout, design, verification and documentation.
  • Experience with high-voltage power electronics and precision analog/digital.
  • Proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD) and circuit simulation software.
  • Strong understanding and experience in reliable AC/DC power distribution systems design.
  • Self-sufficiency in planning and driving projects to conclusion, as well as meeting performance and cost objectives in a timely fashion with a high level of innovation, quality and efficiency.
  • The ability to easily transition from one project to the next with little direct supervision.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in the design and manufacture of Medical Capital Equipment systems or another regulated product development environment (aerospace, defense).
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 and medical device electrical safety standards.
  • Experience with RF system.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage modern AI tools in innovative ways to improve engineering effectiveness, solve technical challenges, or create business value.
Physical And Environmental Considerations
  • Regular standing and walking in lab or engineering areas.
  • Typical office environment.
  • Frequent use of hands to handle tools, instruments, and small parts.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of equipment and materials up to 35 lbs (16 kg).
  • Occasional bending, stooping, or reaching to access work surfaces and equipment.
  • Combination of office and lab/engineering environments.
  • Work around equipment, tools, and test setups with moderate noise.
  • Use of appropriate PPE (e.g., safety glasses, lab coats, gloves) as required by task and safety procedures.
  • May need to work in the vicinity of high magnetic fields.
