Senior Electrical Engineer - Modular Power Systems
Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: Hybrid / Onsite as required
Compensation: $150,000-180,000/year
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join a growing engineering and manufacturing organization in Houston. This position will serve as a technical lead/SME responsible for the complete electrical design of modular, packaged systems used in data center, power, and commercial/industrial applications.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can take an electrical system from customer requirements and conceptual design through detailed engineering, equipment selection, manufacturing, testing, and final installation.
What You'll Do
- Own the complete electrical system design for modular and packaged equipment.
- Develop one-line diagrams, point-to-point schematics, wiring/interface requirements, equipment layouts, specifications, and bills of material (BOMs).
- Size, select, and support procurement of MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, motor starters, VFDs, transformers, ATS, UPS systems, panelboards, conductors, conduit, and motor-operated equipment.
- Perform electrical calculations including load analysis, equipment sizing, voltage drop, fault/short-circuit analysis, and related power-system calculations.
- Apply NEC, NFPA, IEC, IEEE, and applicable industry standards throughout the design process.
- Review customer requirements, vendor packages, technical specifications, and equipment submittals.
- Partner closely with mechanical, controls, project engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and field/service teams.
- Provide hands-on engineering support during fabrication, assembly, testing, FAT/quality inspections, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Ensure electrical designs are practical, manufacturable, maintainable, and compliant with project requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and engineering guidance on complex design issues.
- Support technical bid evaluations, estimating, proposals, and project documentation.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related technical discipline.
- 8-10+ years of electrical engineering experience with strong hands-on design responsibility.
- Strong industrial power distribution background.
- Demonstrated experience designing and specifying switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, ATS/UPS systems, motor circuits, conductors, and related electrical equipment.
- Ability to independently develop and explain one-lines, schematics, equipment sizing, protection requirements, and electrical calculations.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC and applicable electrical codes/standards.
- Experience supporting engineering designs through manufacturing/fabrication and field execution.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-project engineering/manufacturing environment.
Highly Desired
Experience with any combination of the following is especially valuable:
- Modular electrical systems, PDCs/PCRs, E-Houses, packaged skids, or prefabricated equipment
- Data centers / mission-critical infrastructure
- Industrial HVAC, central utility or chilled-water plants
- FAT, commissioning, and production-floor engineering
- AutoCAD, SolidWorks and/or Revit
- PLC, DCS, SCADA, or controls integration
- PE registration
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to take true technical ownership rather than working on only one portion of a larger design. You'll work directly with engineering, manufacturing, vendors, and project teams to see your designs progress from concept through fabrication and final delivery.
If you have a strong background in industrial power distribution and manufactured/modular electrical systems, we'd like to hear from you.
