Sanford Barrows Group in South Florida seeks a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our Transportation Technology & Systems team at one of our South Florida locations (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or West Palm Beach).

The role focuses on engineering design, project coordination and client-facing responsibilities, with opportunities for leadership, mentorship and business development across projects that require NEC/NFPA knowledge and compliant design practices.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required or ability to take and pass PE exam within 6 months of employment.
• Florida PE required within 3 months of employment; out-of-state PE accepted.
• 7–15 years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA and other national standards.
• Knowledge of AASHTO, FDOT and Green Book design criteria and plans preparation.
• Excellent verbal, technical writing and presentation skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to develop high-quality design plans and check others’ work for accuracy.

Job Title: Electrical Engineer or Sr. Electrical Engineer

Salary: $115k - $170k (depending on experience), plus bonus and excellent benefits that include 100% paid medical, dental and vision insurance.

Location: Can report out of any of the 3 South Florida locations (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale or West Palm Beach)

Overview of the Role:

We are looking for a licensed Electrical Engineer (PE) to join our Transportation Technology & Systems team at any of our locations in South Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach).

Essential Functions:

• Engineer of Record where needed.
• Makes design recommendations, adaptations, and modifications.
• Performs calculations using engineering formulas and skills.
• Prepares reports and correspondence.
• Serves as a technical advisor and mentor to junior-level project team members.
• Provides Design and Post-design services during construction.

Contract Documents

• Develops plans, specifications, and reports in accordance with engineering standards and client requirements.
• Leads or participates in the design process to deliver successful projects. Work may include field investigations or inspections, detailed design work and plans preparation, detailed checks of design computations and plans done by others, and coordination of specific design elements.

Project Management

• Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates technical and administrative activities to deliver assignments that meet client requirements.

Business Development

• Assists with technical write-ups or other content as needed for proposals.
• Assists with concept development for project approaches, etc. in proposals.
• Participates in project development or business development activities with clients.

Job Requirements:

• Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) required or ability to take and pass PE exam within 6 months of employment.
• Out-of-state PE is acceptable, but Florida PE is required within 3 months of employment.
• Minimum 7 to 15 years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge and expertise in NEC, NFPA and other national standards.
• Knowledge of codes, principles and practices of electrical engineering.
• Knowledge of design techniques for developing solutions for engineering problems.
• Knowledge in Signalization, Lighting, Utilities, Intelligent Transportation Systems and Tolling.
• Knowledge of AASHTO, State (FDOT) and Municipal (Green Book) design criteria, standards and plans preparation requirements.
• Excellent verbal, technical writing and presentation skills.
• Problem solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to develop high-quality design plans and check the design work of others for accuracy and quality.
• Ability to understand, analyze, and process complex technical information.
