Job description

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer. This role supports the Grid Operations and Planning Research area and will contribute to — and eventually lead — efforts to deploy, evaluate, and assess emerging grid technologies. The position emphasizes power system analysis, modeling, simulation, data analytics, and visualization, with opportunities to engage in broader power system initiatives.

Key Technologies:

• Synchrophasor technology
• Next-generation control center functionalities
• Cybersecurity testing
• Advanced grid visualization techniques
• Data analytics and “big data” applications
• Modeling and simulation using Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) with hardware-in-the-loop testing

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute research plans to evaluate emerging grid technologies
• Support and eventually lead technology deployment and performance evaluation efforts
• Perform power system analysis, modeling, and simulation, including digital twin applications
• Apply data analytics and visualization techniques to support grid operations
• Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
• Document study assumptions, methodologies, and results clearly and accurately
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project updates for internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional research and engineering teams
• Participate in limited overnight travel as required (not extensive)

Education & Technical Requirements

• Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE)
• 6–10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience
• Proficiency in power system modeling and simulation tools such as RTDS, PSCAD, or PSS/E
• Specialization in Power Systems
• Experience or training in computer programming (Python, C#, SQL)
• Experience or training in data science, data analytics, or visualization
• Knowledge of databases, data structures, and computer networking
