Job summary

Kiewit Nuclear Solutions seeks an experienced Electrical Designer to join our expanding nuclear market. The role focuses on leading design efforts for electrical systems across multiple districts, including Lenexa, KS, Houston, TX, Knoxville, TN, and Itasca, IL.

Travel to district offices and sites may be required. The candidate should bring 8+ years in design/drafting, strong electrical design background, and proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and SmartPlant 3D.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in design and/or drafting disciplines, with a strong background in electrical design.
  • Proficiency with 3D design software, including MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant 3D, or similar platforms.
  • SmartPlant 3D experience is preferred. Ability to visualize, develop, and coordinate designs within a 3D environment.
  • Experience using Navisworks for design reviews and coordination. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment while adapting to changing project needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and apply engineering and design standards accurately.
  • DOE and/or commercial nuclear industry experience preferred, but not required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check.
  • Demonstrated professionalism when interacting with clients, contractors, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Actively seeks, receives, and applies feedback to improve performance and deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced designers and engineers, ensuring quality and consistency in design deliverables.
  • Review and check design work completed by junior staff, providing direction to resolve design and drafting issues.
  • Develop practical solutions and corrective actions to address drawing discrepancies, constructability concerns, and design challenges.
  • Manage multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining quality, budget, and schedule commitments.
  • Serve as a field engineering/design resource, supporting construction teams in resolving moderately complex to complex installation and design issues.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of industry standards, codes, procedures, and best practices to produce high-quality engineering deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement, developing new methods and approaches to enhance design efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Evaluate alternatives and recommend cost-effective design solutions that meet project requirements.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to improve communication, coordination, and constructability of design documents.
  • Identify scope changes and impacts during project execution and implement drawing revisions as necessary to support project objectives, budgets, and schedules.
  • Interpret and communicate design intent, standards, and procedures to ensure consistency and quality across project deliverables.
  • Prepare and develop advanced instrumentation and controls design deliverables, including Instrument Location Plans, Loop Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Schedules, and Installation Details.
  • Develop detailed instrument installation drawings and demonstrate a thorough understanding of instrumentation systems, equipment, and installation requirements.
  • Support design reviews, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination efforts throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Strong technical leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to independently prioritize work and manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering, construction, and client teams.
