Senior Electrical Designer – Minneapolis, MN
IMEG seeks a Senior Electrical Designer to lead electrical system design projects, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior staff in the Minneapolis office. The role blends engineering, project management, and client interaction to deliver high‑quality electrical solutions for building projects.
Principal Responsibilities
- Lead design efforts as project manager or lead designer for moderate to complex projects.
- Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects across all design and construction phases.
- Develop project schedules, milestones, and cost estimates; prepare fee calculations and contract reviews.
- Serve as primary point of contact for teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Create and submit monthly billings; update billing projections and completion percentages.
- Ensure designs meet owner standards, IMEG standards, code requirements, and quality control processes.
- Schedule and lead progress meetings; provide meeting documentation.
- Conduct construction site visits and document findings; respond to construction or client concerns.
- Manage change orders and obtain approvals.
- Train, mentor, and motivate staff; foster professional growth.
- Build, maintain, and develop client relationships.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Advanced technical knowledge of electrical system design, circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics.
- Proficiency in Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards, NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI).
- Expertise in Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; proficiency with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu.
- Strong mentoring, training, and leadership abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; clear oral and written communication.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (minimum 7 years of experience; 8 preferred).
- Alternatively, associate’s degree or certificate in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering (minimum 11 years of experience; 12 preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Regularly sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and grasp.
- Work may involve limited exposure to outdoor weather and loud noises.
Salary and Benefits
$101,000 – $141,000 annually (variable by location and experience).
