Vanderweil Engineers in Boston, MA, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for a hybrid role at our headquarters. You will lead the development of substation design packages and ensure alignment with project managers and stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in high-voltage substation design and proficiency in AutoCAD and related tools. Our hybrid work model offers flexibility, enhancing skill development through in-person interactions with industry experts.

Compensation ranges from $140,000 to $180,000 plus a bonus based on experience.

Senior Electrical Design Engineer, Transmission & Distribution

Hybrid schedule at our Boston, MA headquarters (Seaport district, four‑minute walk from South Station).

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of substation physical and protection/control design packages for projects ranging from 34.5kV to 500kV.
• Oversee the preparation of equipment layouts, grounding designs, conduit/cable routing plans, and wiring diagrams.
• Direct the creation of panel layouts, protection schematics, and control wiring drawings in accordance with utility standards.
• Serve as the primary design interface with engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders to ensure design quality and schedule alignment.
• Support field installation efforts with constructability reviews, field markups, and as‑built drawing updates.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in high‑voltage substation design.
• AutoCAD, AutoCAD‑3D, Inventor or Revit for substation design and modeling.
• Understanding of substation physical layouts, wiring standards, relay/control systems, and equipment specifications.
• Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Design, Drafting, or related background.
• MicroStation or Bentley experience is a plus.

Benefits & Compensation

Compensation range is $140,000 to $180,000 plus bonus pending years of experience, education, and licensure.
