About the Role

Our client, a prestigious architectural and engineering consultancy, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their vibrant team in Randburg, Gauteng. This role focuses on the design of electrical systems for high-end commercial buildings, including office complexes, retail spaces, and mixed-use developments. You will be responsible for leading the electrical design process, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards, and delivering innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions. This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of building services engineering, excellent project management skills, and the ability to mentor junior engineers. You will collaborate closely with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into building designs. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design for commercial building projects, from concept development to final handover.
• Develop detailed electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and calculations for lighting, power distribution, earthing, and fire detection systems.
• Perform load calculations, voltage drop analysis, and fault current studies.
• Ensure designs comply with SANS, SABS, NHBRC standards, and relevant building codes.
• Collaborate effectively with architectural and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Review shop drawings and respond to site queries during construction.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress and ensure adherence to design intent.
• Mentor and guide junior electrical engineers and designers.
• Assist in tender preparation and contract administration.
• Stay updated on the latest electrical technologies and sustainable design practices for buildings.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in electrical design engineering, specifically for commercial building projects.
• Proven experience in leading electrical design teams and managing project delivery.
• In-depth knowledge of building electrical systems, low voltage distribution, lighting design, and emergency power systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and electrical design software (e.g., Amtech, DIALux).
• Strong understanding of South African building regulations and electrical codes.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is highly preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing office-based collaboration with remote work.
• Experience with green building certifications (e.g., LEED, Green Star) is an advantage.
