Job summary

Portescap, a division of Regal Rexnord, seeks a Motor Design Engineer with strong electric machine design background to join our R&D team. You will develop custom electromagnetic designs for miniature motor systems and provide sustaining engineering support to customers and manufacturing.

The role involves working with global teams on joint projects, contributing to technology breakthroughs, and traveling up to 5% as needed in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years in design/manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years in electric machine design.
  • Experience with DC/AC motors, control, testing, specs, applications.
  • Ability to read/create electrical schematics; use data sheets.
  • Hands-on with electrical/mechanical test equipment and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop miniature motor drive systems from concept to production.
  • Create technical proposals for new product applications with customers.
  • Support manufacturing with troubleshooting and feedback on quality topics.
  • Translate inputs into engineering requirements across cross-functional teams.

Job description

Work Model: This is a fully onsite role, with work performed at your designated Regal Rexnord office.

SUMMARY

Portescap is seeking a Motor Design Engineer, with a background in electric machine design to join our team. The group focuses primarily on the design of small DC brushless motors. The Motor Design Engineer is a key member of the R&D team within Portescap and will have broad technical and leadership responsibilities. They should have extensive experience with electric motor design and be looking to both learn and to bring new knowledge and experience to our engineering team. The primary responsibility in this role is the development of custom electromagnetic designs for miniature motor systems. Responsibilities also include sustaining engineering support for our customers and for the manufacturing team, as well as innovation to enable technology breakthroughs that extend our ability to serve our customer's unmet needs. Other opportunities include working globally on joint projects with our Indian and Swiss R&D teams. This role is essential to Portescap's growth strategy, requiring creative, effective, and flexible candidates able to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and development of new and advanced miniature motor drive systems from concept to production in a cross functional engineering environment
  • Work with customers to create technical proposals for new product applications
  • Support manufacturing staff with troubleshooting and provide feedback on quality related topics
  • Work closely with Customers, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or the Commercial Team to gather design inputs from various sources and translate input into engineering requirements
  • Develop and integrate innovative technologies that extend the performance and capabilities of our product portfolio
  • Support internal and external customer product engineering requests

Education and Experience Requirements
  • The incumbent has to be a US citizen only
  • B.S. Electrical Engineering or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred
  • 5 or more years of experience in design and manufacturing environment is required
  • 5 or more years of experience in electric machine design is required
  • Experience with DC or AC motors including control, testing, specifications and applications is required
  • Experience with a finite element and/or parameterized motor design software is required
  • Experience incorporating customer requirements into technical proposals / designs is preferred
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and readily use component data sheets is required
  • Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical test equipment such as signal generators, DVM, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, tension/torsion testers, thermal chambers and vibration monitoring is required
  • Experience troubleshooting electronics or electrical assemblies is required
  • Experience with Magtrol motor test equipment or similar dynamometer systems is preferredExperience working directly with customers or external OEMs is preferred
