Job Description

Spang Engineered Solutions, a division of Spang & Company, has an opening for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer at its Pittsburgh, PA location. This position involves designing inductors and other magnetic devices for customers, as well as developing and maintaining tools and reference information for accurate and rapid design presentations.

Spang Engineered Solutions specializes in designing and manufacturing custom inductive components for industries such as renewable energy, solar, medical, aerospace, automotive, and military. Our manufacturing facilities are located in Pittsburgh, PA; Phoenix, AZ; McKinney, TX, USA; and Xiamen, China.

Primary responsibilities include:

1. Responding promptly to customer inquiries for design support and determining the appropriate response, whether a full design, preliminary design, follow-up, or redirect.
2. Maintaining and enhancing inductor design software, and developing new tools as needed, including researching available options.
3. Preparing internal RFQs.
4. Reviewing, preparing, and annotating part prints.
5. Supporting production teams in China and the US by providing answers and anticipating questions.
6. Learning and utilizing SES electrical test equipment.
7. Assisting in sourcing materials and components with purchasing and production teams in the US and China.
8. Facilitating new product transfer by working with engineering and manufacturing to ensure smooth transition, developing procedures, checklists, and test specifications, and training manufacturing personnel.
9. Up to 25% travel required to SES manufacturing locations or customer meetings.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics. Candidates should have 5–10 years of experience in transformer/inductor design. Experience with electrical component manufacturing and testing is required. A background in Power Distribution Systems, Control Systems, Failure Analysis, Electrical Product Design, or NEC is desirable.
