Job summary

The City of Aurora is hiring a Code Compliance Officer/Electrical Inspector in the Development Services Department. This on-site role combines electrical inspection with multi-discipline building checks to ensure code compliance across multiple trades.

Applicants must have five years in construction in electrical trades and hold ICC certifications such as Residential Electrical Inspector and Commercial Electrical Inspector.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of construction experience in electrical trades as contractor/engineer/foreman or competent supervisor.
• ICC certifications required at hire or within stated timeframes: Residential Electrical Inspector, Residential Plans Examiner, Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner, Commercial Electrical Inspector, Electrical Plans Examiner.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site inspections across electrical, building, fire, mechanical, plumbing, zoning, signs, and property maintenance.
• Identify violations, issue notices, and conduct re-inspections as required.
• Review building permits for code compliance and assist plan examiners with interpretations.
• Answer public inquiries and respond to complaints regarding codes and safety standards.
• Appear in court to provide testimony as required.
