Job summary

City of Gardner is seeking an Electric Generation Substation Manager to lead operations for the City’s electric generation facilities, substations, and transmission networks. You will provide strategic technical management, mentor staff, and enforce safety and operational discipline across field teams.

The ideal candidate has a BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with at least seven years in power utilities and three years of supervising technical teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive, hands-on experience in power generation or municipal utilities.
• Minimum of three (3) years of formal supervisory experience managing technical field operators or utility teams.
• Preference for candidates with exposure to dual-utility operations (electric and water/wastewater).
• Requires a valid driver's license and a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and field accountability for City’s electric generation facilities, substations, and transmission networks.
• Mentor apprentices and supervise the Engineering Technician, SCADA Specialist and Electric Operators.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration across Utilities and other City departments to ensure long-term infrastructure health.
• Maintain strict operational discipline and safety culture across field operations.
