Job summary

MGE in Madison, WI seeks a Senior Engineer- Electric Planning to lead distribution planning, DER integration, and long-range capital planning. The role provides technical leadership in system modeling, reliability analyses, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, cost-effective electric service.

You will perform advanced load-flow, fault-current, EMT, and interconnection studies, mentor staff, and drive planning initiatives with cross-functional teams and regulators.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of electric utility engineering with emphasis in distribution planning.
• Experience with system modeling, planning studies, and DER interconnection analyses.
• Experience leading complex technical projects across stakeholders.
• Experience using electric system analysis software such as Synergi Electric, PSCAD.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement electric distribution planning strategies.
• Lead studies evaluating reliability, capacity, and growth impacts.
• Validate distribution models and apply advanced analytical techniques.
• Perform load flow, voltage, fault current, and contingency analyses.
• Evaluate DER interconnections and electrification impacts on performance.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies and stakeholders on investments.
