Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a senior transmission design engineer to lead the design of 69kV–765kV lines with a hybrid schedule (in‑office 3 days/week) in Chicago.

Requires 12 years of transmission design experience, 3+ years on 500kV/765kV projects, and proficiency with PLS‑CADD. You will develop scopes of work, guide design basis, review calculations, and ensure compliance with NESC, IEC, IEEE and ANSI standards.

Qualifications

• BS degree from ABET‑accredited program.
• 12 years of transmission design experience.
• 3+ years on 500kV/765kV transmission line design.
• Familiarity with 765kV electrical considerations.
• Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
• Experience developing scopes of work, conceptual designs, design basis, equipment/material selection, and calculations.
• Experience collaborating with clients on lines from 69kV to 765kV.
• Knowledge of NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI standards.
• Experience reviewing design drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of transmission lines in the 69kV to 765kV range.
• Serve as a subject matter specialist in 500kV and 765kV lines.
• Mentor and train less experienced design team members.
• Coordinate design activities to ensure compliance with specs and client requirements.
• Prepare reports and studies meeting client needs and S&L formats.
• Perform independent reviews of work including calculations and models in PLS-CADD.
• Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.
