Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to deliver, implement and refine regional and site EHS policies and practices.
• Oversee EHS activities and ensure compliance with national, customer and Komatsu standards.
• Coordinate safety training for Gillette & Evansville facilities and manage training scheduling.
• Investigate incidents and lead serious incident investigations when needed.
• Collect and analyze EHS metrics; drive pollution prevention and waste minimization.
• Perform regular safety inspections on shop floors, fields and customer sites, coaching on safe work practices.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support operations across multiple Wyoming locations, including two facilities in Gillette and a branch in Casper. This position is based in Gillette, WY, and is a critical role in promoting a strong safety culture by partnering with employees, supervisors, and customers to ensure safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives at mining and construction equipment locations.

The successful candidate will spend significant time in the field and on shop floors, providing coaching, mentoring, inspections, training, and hands‑on EHS support across mining and construction environments. This job requires up to 35% travel, including a few overnights a month.

A typical day may include:

• Walking shop floors and interacting with employees.
• Visiting mine sites and customer locations.
• Conducting safety observations and compliance audits.
• Coaching employees and leaders on safe work practices.
• Supporting onboarding activities and training programs.
• Investigating incidents or near misses.
• Collaborating with branch leadership on continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery, implementation, administration and refinement of regional and site EHS policies, procedures and best management practices.
• Oversee all EHS activities within the operational context and guide operations toward compliance with national, customer and company standards. Ensure that plans are consistent with overall Komatsu strategies and corporate mandates.
• Oversight of required safety training of the facilities in Gillette & Evansville, including scheduling and managing training issues while balancing work schedules to minimize costs.
• Interface with and influence operations to ensure proper training, documentation, communication and implementation of corrective action items for all incidents of loss. Assume leadership role in investigation of serious or significant incidents of loss when necessary.
• Collect, record, analyze and communicate key performance metrics on a regular basis (daily, monthly, quarterly, annually) to facilitate the advancement of EHS initiatives. Guide pollution prevention and waste minimization efforts to reduce overall waste management costs.
• Serve as the primary EHS resource for operations in Gillette, Casper and other assigned locations. Conduct regular shop, field and customer site safety inspections. Partner with employees and supervisors to identify and mitigate workplace hazards. Provide coaching and mentoring on safe work practices and regulatory compliance. Ensure employees use proper PPE and follow established procedures.

Qualifications / Requirements

B.S. degree in Safety, Health and Environmental Management or related field preferred.

• 4-8 years practical EHS experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or mining sectors with increasing roles.
• CSP or CMSP designation is preferred but not required.
• Comprehensive understanding of all Federal regulations and standards as they relate to General Industry and Mining operations (OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA, DNR, etc.).
• Knowledge of Workers' Compensation Claims Management and best practices. Ability to maintain multiple accountabilities and relationships, strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
• Proficiency in planning and prioritizing EHS initiatives, ability to work well with others to execute strategic priorities, and practical experience overseeing maintenance of a manufacturing/service center.
• Ability to lead organization through change management and manage multiple projects.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Travel up to 35% from Gillette to Casper and customer sites, including some overnights.
