Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist to lead and execute Environmental, Health, and Safety programs. You will mentor staff, develop trainings for faculty and staff, and oversee inspections and safety initiatives within UTMB-EHS, Radiation & Occupational Safety.

The role requires independent project leadership, knowledge of safety regulations, and collaboration with multiple departments to ensure compliant, safe operations across hospital, lab, and clinical environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years related experience
• HAZWOPER certification within 6 months of hire
• Valid Texas driver’s license and ability to operate UTMB vehicle
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Responsibilities

• Independently plans, develops, trains, and implements diversified EHS programs.
• Provides customer service and consultation on safety compliance.
• Develops systems that prevent problems from arising.
• Interacts with faculty and groups to achieve desired outcomes.
• Participates in safety committees and supports team processes.
• Responds to hazardous materials releases and emergencies.
• Performs inspections and maintains records to meet compliance goals.
