Job description

VERSANT (Nasdaq: VSNT) is an industry-changing media and entertainment business and home to trusted brands that shape culture, inform audiences, and build lasting connections. It operates across four core markets: political news and opinion, business news and personal finance, golf, and sports and genre entertainment. These markets are served through a powerful portfolio of iconic and innovative brands, including CNBC, MS NOW, USA Network, Golf Channel, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Versant's sports division USA Sports, along with complementary digital assets including Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow and GolfPass.

CNBC is seeking a Wall Street Editor to build and lead our expanded coverage of deals, banks, brokers and asset managers. CNBC is already a leader in breaking news and delivering insights on the global financial system. The new editor would lead a team that would elevate CNBC's coverage of mergers and acquisitions. The reporters would highlight the people behind the deals and give our audience unrivaled insights into the world's most important financial institutions.

The editor would collaborate with CNBC's on air journalists, leveraging their reporting and building out their exclusive stories. The editor would guide reporters and navigate sourcing to deliver scoops on the biggest deals and financing stories. The role would be strategic: setting reporting priorities across finance, including banks, brokers, fund managers and private markets players.

The elevated financial coverage will be tailored to CNBC's broad audience, including television viewers and our growing digital subscribers. The editor will need to seamlessly integrate television with our digital coverage and boost the audience for both. The role will include launching and growing a major initiative linked to CNBC's Dave Faber, which will offer readers his deep knowledge of finance and dealmaking.

Responsibilities

  • Expand and manage CNBC's Wall Street coverage including deals, finance and banking
  • Hire reporters and work with existing staff to deliver major scoops
  • Launch initiative on deals, dealmakers and deal analysis
  • Develop strategies to engage readers and broaden CNBC's digital and television audience
  • Generate strong analytical stories about key financial events
  • Coordinate between CNBC's television and digital offerings, leveraging the capabilities of each to dominate coverage of deals and finance.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience editing and managing for a major business publication
  • 3+ years building and managing reporting teams that deliver significant scoops
  • Ability to edit complicated stories for a broad audience
  • Strong understanding of finance and deals and ability to prioritize coverage
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills

Desired Characteristics (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Background in investing, markets or finance
  • Experience appearing on television in a variety of formats
  • Deep well of sources in finance industry
  • Experience delivering memorable enterprise stories

Additional Requirements

  • Hybrid
