Job summary

Courier Newsroom is seeking a Senior Editor to lead impact content and paid media. This remote, U.S.-based role reports to the VP of Underwriting Editorial Products & Sponsored Content and focuses on editorial strategy, team leadership, and collaboration with paid media partners.

Ideal candidates have 5-8 years in journalism, strong editing and mentorship skills, and a commitment to local journalism and civic engagement.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years in journalism and editorial leadership.
• Strong editing skills to develop and refine content strategies.
• Experience writing or producing marketing, PR, sponsored content, or campaigns.
• Passion for local journalism, civic engagement, and amplifying underrepresented voices.
• Demonstrated collaboration and mentorship within teams.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to manage multiple priorities.
• Solid understanding of data analytics and applying it to content optimization.
• Experience with digital CMS and social media platforms.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement editorial content strategy for paid and impact content, aligning with Courier Newsroom's mission.
• Directly manage a roster of freelance writers and video correspondents.
• Collaborate with reporters to edit and refine content for target audiences and partner goals.
• Ensure content is accurate, fair, and adheres to journalistic ethics.
• Mentor the editorial team; oversee recruitment, onboarding, and professional development.
• Provide regular updates to the VP on progress toward departmental goals and address challenges.
• Train team members on creating content that aligns with partner goals while maintaining journalistic standards.
• Assist in team performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
• Meet with paid media partners to align priorities and translate them to editorial processes.
• Support implementation of new tools and approaches to enhance political content.
• May manage interns.
