Job summary

The Minnesota Star Tribune, a leading Minnesota newsroom, seeks a Deputy Editor to shape audience strategy and newsletters. You will oversee editors embedded in editorial desks, guiding audience insights, experiments, and performance decisions to enhance reader engagement and subscription value.

You’ll drive the central strategy for our newsletter portfolio, including experimentation on subject lines, formats, cadence and segmentation, while partnering with editors to ensure quality and

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is required or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in newsletter strategy, audience development or digital strategy.
• At least 2 years leading or managing teams.
• Strong understanding of audience analytics and actionable data.
• Experience with email platforms (Sailthru or similar).
• Excellent communication and collaboration with editors and reporters.

Responsibilities

• Lead embedded audience strategy across News & Politics, Greater MN, Business, Outdoors, Food & Culture, Sports and Strib Varsity.
• Partner with desk editors to identify opportunities, data needs and performance goals.
• Develop shared audience frameworks to set priorities and evaluate performance.
• Lead audience messaging across newsletters, push, in-app and other platforms.
• Collaborate with product, data and marketing to automate audience journeys.
• Coach Audience Editors in planning, data interpretation and platform decisions.
• Improve collaboration across desks, product, data, social, homepage and newsletters.
