Northeastern Global News (NGN), Northeastern University's award-winning, fast-paced, daily news organization is looking for a talented Senior Editor to be based on Northeastern's Boston campus.
The ideal candidate is an adaptable and creative journalist with experience in top-tier media organizations, who will help drive innovative and timely storytelling, set news agenda and manage content production.
The Senior Editor must have several years of experience working fordaily commercial news organizations. The experience should includemeticulous line-editing often under tight deadlines, factchecking,ensuring accuracy and adherence to ethical standards, and helpingreporters to conceptualize and shape high-impact stories.
NGN showcases news about innovation across Northeastern's academicand research enterprise, including but not limited to stories aboutdiscoveries, innovations across multiple areas, such as artificialintelligence, health, engineering, computer science, data science,and the humanities, to name a few.
NGN covers newsworthy stories across Northeastern's global systemof campuses in the US, UK, and Canada. Stories focus on examples ofleadership and innovation throughout the university in areasincluding experiential learning programs, research, teaching, andcampus life inside labs, classrooms, and beyond. NGN also providescommentary and analysis by faculty experts on timely topics thatcaptivate national and global conversations. It is a highlydata-informed organization with ambitious goals and impeccablestandards.
The Senior Editor must be capable of delivering accurate and timelyedits across multiple platforms. We expect curiosity,accountability, creativity, along with a commitment to precisionand speed.
This role is perfect for a journalist who is well-versed in aplethora of topics from science, technology and AI to health andwellbeing, sports and pop culture. The person in this role thrivesin a fast-paced environment, has great news judgment, andunderstands how to mold copy to reach readers across digitalplatforms. The Senior Editor will be adept at crafting compelling,SEO-friendly headlines and captions.
NGN is part of Northeastern's Communications team in ExternalAffairs. Reporting to the Executive Editor of NGN, the SeniorEditor is part of a team of journalists who work closely with mediarelations, social media and multimedia teams withinCommunications.
The position is based on the Boston campus and is fully on site,five days a week. Remote or hybrid work are not an option. As isthe case for every member of the Communications team, after-hourswork, including weekends and holidays, is routinelyrequired.
