Job Summary

NGN is looking for a talented News Reporter tobe based on Northeastern's New York City campus. The idealcandidate is an experienced journalist and versatile storytellerwho can report on complex topics and write compelling andwell-researched articles. The NYC News Reporter must have severalyears of experience working for daily commercial newsorganizations, including covering breaking news and reporting on avariety of topics with varying complexity and under tightdeadlines.

The NYC News Reporter must deliver accurate,timely, and compelling journalism across multiple platforms with aparticular focus on newsworthy stories from Northeastern University– New York City. We expect curiosity, accountability, creativity,and a commitment to accuracy and speed. This role is perfect for ajournalist who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has great newsjudgment, and understands how to reach readers across digitalplatforms.

Reporting to the Executive Editor of NGN, theNYC News Reporter is part of a team of journalists who work closelywith media relations, social media, and multimedia teams withinCommunications. It is a highly data-informed organization withambitious goals and impeccable standards.

The position is based on the NYC campus and isfully on site, five days a week. Remote or hybrid options are notavailable. As is the case for every member of the Communicationsteam, after-hours work, including weekends and holidays, isroutinely required.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Report, write, and publish breaking news,daily stories, and enterprise features for a large audience
• Work closely with editors to refine pitches,shape coverage, and maintain high standards of accuracy
• Develop reliable sources and maintain strongrelationships across the Northeastern community and relevantstakeholder groups
• Produce stories that are clear, engaging, andaccessible to readers
• Collaborate with media relations, socialmedia, and multimedia teams to enhance stories with data, graphics,photos, and video
• Monitor analytics and audience metrics toinform reporting and follow-up coverage
• Adhere to guidelines and fact-checkthoroughly

Minimum Qualifications

• 5-7 years reporting experience with acommercial daily news organization (digital or print)
• Demonstrated ability to handle breaking newswith speed and accuracy
• Experience interpreting public documents,filings, and data
• Strong writing, interviewing, andsource-building skills
• Excellent news judgment
• Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, andrespond quickly to developing stories

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with digital publishing tools
• Experience with multimedia or videoreporting
• Data journalism or basic visual storytellingskills
• Knowledge of SEO and audience engagementstrategies

Salary Range

$83,870 - $118,608 Annually

With the pay range(s) shown above, the startingsalary will depend on several factors, which may include youreducation, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, andskills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employeesalready in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and aresubject to change.
