Job description

Filion Capital is seeking a intellectually curious and insightful Senior Economist / Macro Strategist to provide a critical edge to our global investment process. This individual will be responsible for analyzing worldwide economic trends, geopolitical events, and monetary policies to identify macro risks and opportunities that impact our investment strategy and portfolio companies. The insights generated will directly inform our capital allocation, sector targeting, and geographic expansion, ensuring our firm is positioned ahead of major market shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and communicate Filion's house view on the global macroeconomic outlook, including GDP growth, interest rates, inflation, and currency movements.
  • Produce in-depth research and thematic reports on long-term secular trends, geopolitical risks, and regulatory changes affecting our core sectors and geographies of interest.
  • Create and maintain macroeconomic models and dashboards to forecast key variables and assess potential impacts on portfolio company performance and valuation.
  • Provide real-time analysis and briefings to the investment committee and deal teams on economic data releases, central bank decisions, and major geopolitical events.
  • Partner closely with investment professionals during due diligence to stress-test investment theses against various macroeconomic scenarios.
  • Advise portfolio company management teams on macroeconomic factors affecting their industries, including supply chain dynamics, commodity prices, and consumer demand trends.
  • Identify and analyze investment opportunities arising from macroeconomic dislocations or long-term structural changes in global markets.
  • Represent Filion Capital at industry conferences and contribute thought leadership through white papers and presentations.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. strongly preferred) in Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in macroeconomic research, strategy, or forecasting, ideally within a global investment bank, central bank, international institution (e.g., IMF, World Bank), hedge fund, or a macro-focused asset management firm.
  • Deep expertise in global markets, with a specific focus on emerging markets and frontier economies, particularly in Africa.
  • Exceptional quantitative and modeling skills; high proficiency in statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, Python) and Excel is required.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex information from multiple sources into clear, concise, and compelling written reports and presentations.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate sophisticated economic concepts to a non-specialist investment audience.
  • Independent, critical thinker with a strong point of view and intellectual humility.
  • A passion for connecting the dots between macro forces and micro-level investment decisions.
Job Location

The annual salary for the Senior Economist / Macro Strategist position at Filion Capital ranges from $250,000 to $350,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
