Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Senior Economist to conduct advanced economic research, forecasting, analysis, and monitoring to support planning, regulatory, customer, sales, and strategic objectives.

Under the Economics & Sales Analysis Manager, you will develop insights, models, dashboards, and briefing materials, and mentor others on complex analytical assignments across Forecasting, Planning, Regulatory, Finance, and Sales functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in economics, forecasting, analytics, utility economics, market analysis, or related disciplines.
  • Experience supporting regulatory proceedings, strategic planning efforts, customer growth initiatives, or investor communications preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of macroeconomic analysis, regional economics, utility industry fundamentals, and customer market trends.

Responsibilities

  • Economic, Customer, and Industry Research to support forecasting, planning, regulatory, sales, and strategic initiatives.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance economic models, monitoring tools, dashboards, forecasts, and scenario analyses.
  • Prepare economic analyses, presentations, reports, and briefing materials for executive and investor audiences.
  • Provide technical economic support for regulatory filings, testimony, discovery responses, benchmarking, and stakeholder inquiries.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership on analytical projects across the department.
  • Synthesize complex information into clear business implications and recommendations.
  • Communicate findings to business audiences with clarity and impact.
