Job description

Senior Economist, Customer Engagement Technology

The Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) team is a new function within Customer Engagement Technology. We are responsible for the end-to-end process of defining, building, implementing, and monitoring a comprehensive data strategy. Our team also develops and applies Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), Agentic AI, Ontology, Knowledge Graph, and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to strengthen our foundational technology and improve customer and associate experiences.

As a Senior Economist, your expertise will be key in shaping data-driven strategies and addressing complex data challenges. You will analyze our extensive customer service interaction dataset using advanced econometric methods to develop causal models for proactive solutions that improve customer experiences. Your expertise in causal analysis will be crucial in understanding customer interaction behaviors, analyzing data patterns, and assessing their impacts.

A key focus of this role will be on causal econometrics, analyzing complex signals from customer interactions, purchasing patterns, and operational processes. These signals present challenges due to their complexity, requiring sophisticated feature engineering to address evolving trends. Your economic reasoning will drive decision-making as you lead cross-functional projects and identify innovative opportunities. You'll design and implement econometric models, making sound methodological choices and developing validated solutions. This role combines practical execution with strategic direction, from data exploration to deployment. Your impact will extend beyond technical work, as you present strategic narratives to leadership, influence across functions, build consensus, and articulate the measurable impact of solutions.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead building and implementing causal inference methodologies on large-scale data to create business and customer impact
- Design simple, scalable solutions for complex business problems with measurable results
- Partner with senior leaders to translate economic and data science insights into actions
- Build consensus across teams and effectively manage diverse stakeholder perspectives
- Mentor scientists and serve as technical resource for economic methodologies and data science.

A day in the life
As an Economist in the Data and AI team, you will combine deep business understanding with hands-on problem-solving in econometric analysis and causal inference. Your expertise will be vital in tackling complex economic initiatives, ensuring they align with customer needs and business objectives while translating requirements into practical data-driven solutions. You will design and enhance econometric models working collaboratively across functions. Your role involves providing analytical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering economic reasoning and promoting rigorous analytical solutions. You will ensure data quality standards, optimize model performance, and generate actionable insights from vast amounts of information. Through your contributions, you will resolve complex methodological challenges, advance critical economic analyses, and conceive new approaches to improve how we utilize data to transform customer and associate experiences.
