Job summary

IAT Insurance Group is seeking a Senior Underwriter in Scottsdale, AZ to join our Contract Binding team. The role focuses on profitable growth within risk appetite, managing delegated authority wholesale agents and a book of business valued at $5–$10 million in written premium.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience, including E&S lines, and agency management experience. Hybrid schedule with in-office Mon–Wed and remote option Thu–Fri.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree + 5+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience or equivalent.
• Experience managing and growing a book of business valued at $5–$10 million in written premium.
• Experience with non-admitted and/or Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines underwriting.
• Agency management experience.

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for Senior Underwriter from our Scottsdale, Arizonia location.

This role is part of our Contract Binding team and is responsible for driving profitable growth within the company’s risk appetite while maintaining an acceptable loss ratio. The position focuses on building and managing relationships with delegated authority wholesale agents.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience as a commercial P&C underwriter, including successfully managing and growing a book of business valued at $5–10 million in written premium. Experience with Excess & Surplus Lines is strongly preferred.

This role works a hybrid schedule that requires working from the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working Thursday and Friday remotely.

Responsibilities

• You will evaluate information to determine risk acceptability in accordance with company guidelines.
• Makes appropriate decisions based on evaluation of underwriting information.
• Conducting marketing agency visits with our wholesale partners at least twice a year
• Performs active agency management of their assigned territory
• Effectively communicates and negotiates underwriting and pricing decisions to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Acts with a sense of urgency on all inquiries/requests.
• Provides outstanding customer service.
• Builds effective working relationships with assigned agency personnel as well as internal company staff.
• Drives acceptable levels of new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents.
• Completes file audits within company guidelines to ensure compliance to underwriting and pricing standards where agents are delegated underwriting authority.
• Attends agency conferences and conducts seminars and breakout sessions.
• Participates and leads special projects as assigned.
• Handles a moderate number of agency assignments.
• Participates in annual planning meetings with assigned agents.
• Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications

Must-Have

• Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years of commercial Property and Casualty underwriting experience or equivalent.
• Equivalent experience defined as 6+ years as a P&C Underwriter in lieu of a bachelor’s degree
• Experience with non-admitted and/or Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines underwriting
• Agency Management experience.
• To qualify, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require VISA sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment purposes.
