Job summary

Mercedes-Benz Research and Development North America, Inc. (MBRDNA) is seeking an experienced E-Motor Control Engineer in Ann Arbor to lead development of e-motor control algorithms for electrified vehicles.

You will drive model-based design, validation, calibration, and testing across simulation, HIL, dyno, and real hardware, ensuring robust performance. The role requires 5+ years in e-motor control, strong MATLAB/Simulink/TargetLink skills, and familiarity with automotive SPICE.

Qualifications

  • MS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on control algorithms.
  • 5+ years of e-motor control experience for automotive applications (AC IPM/Induction).
  • Model-based design, simulation, and algorithm development using MATLAB/Simulink/TargetLink.
  • Calibration tools proficiency (Vector CANape, INCA, LabVIEW) and scripting for data processing and test automation.
  • Familiarity with automotive software development processes and automotive SPICE.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and ownership with a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate, develop, and refine e-motor control algorithms and software using model-based design.
  • Validate systems via simulation, motor emulator, HIL, and dyno testing.
  • Calibrate motor control software to meet performance, functionality, and diagnostic requirements.
  • Design and execute test cases for EM-Controls software using automated scripts and manual tests.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues in E-drive systems and support cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate testing activities across groups and manage requirements with PLM tools.
  • Support capacity planning for future motors, power electronics, and software variants.
