Job summary

Gatik, the leader in autonomous middle-mile logistics, seeks a Senior Systems & Safety Engineer for Drive-by-Wire to ensure safe, fail-operational motion control on its Class 3-7 autonomous trucks. This onsite role is based in Santa Clara, CA.

You will collaborate with vehicle OEMs and DbW suppliers to certify ISO 26262 ASIL D compliance, perform hazard analyses, and support real-world validation on high-speed, heavy-payload deployments.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or Automotive Engineering.
• 6+ years in vehicle chassis systems with ASIL D experience.
• Proficient in vehicle dynamics modeling and CAN/CAN-FD, FlexRay, and Automotive Ethernet.
• Direct mastery of ISO 26262 ASIL D safety standards and FMVSS regulations.
• Proficient with CAN analysis tools (Vector CANoe, CANalyzer) and MATLAB/Simulink.

Responsibilities

• Define functional safety architecture for redundant steering, braking, and propulsion control systems.
• Collaborate with commercial vehicle OEMs and Tier-1 DbW providers to evaluate interfaces, safety manuals, and compliance.
• Establish actuation fault management strategies including MRMs and emergency stop timing.
• Perform HARA, FMEA, and FTA analyses on actuation channels and interfaces.
• Author top‑level safety requirements and trace them to firmware, CAN signals, and safety monitors.
• Design on‑vehicle fault injection campaigns with testing teams for high‑speed, heavy‑payload validation.
