Job summary

Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Engineer Senior to lead drinking water engineering efforts in the Abingdon area. You will ensure compliance with SDWA, supervise engineering functions, and provide technical guidance to staff and owners, operators, and consultants.

Role requires expertise in sanitary engineering, strong report writing, and the ability to interpret federal/state regulations. PE/EIT in Virginia is preferred; background checks and E-Verify may apply.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of drinking water sanitary engineering required.
• Familiarity with state/federal drinking water laws and rules.
• Ability to supervise and provide technical guidance to staff.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.
• Ability to manage projects and interpret regulations.

Responsibilities

• Protect public health by ensuring drinking water compliance with SDWA and Waterworks Regulations.
• Supervise engineering functions for regional office and provide guidance.
• Audit and approve engineers' work and evaluate waterworks designs.
• Conduct sanitary surveys and provide technical assistance to plants and systems.
